The contemporary art gallery eN arts was established in 2007 with the founding concept of broadening the appreciation of contemporary arts to the world from Kyoto, the elegant ancient capital that has been a center of Japanese culture and arts since the Heian Period (794-1165). In Gion’s Maruyama Park, the gallery rebuilt a 100 year old Sukiyastyle building to create a unique space that offers dramatic exhibition zones - a perfect white cube, a black cube with its walls and ceiling painted black, and a dedicated tea room in which contemporary works shown in the “tokonoma” alcove can be enjoyed while one views the “tsubo niwa” inner garden - that contrast completely with the building’s traditional exterior. eN arts presents exhibitions focusing on the latest works of artists represented in the eN arts collection, which includes works from around the world in various genres, as well as exhibitions of other fine artists.
